Hempfield Township Athletic Center
In 2006, the construction of a multi-use facility was started at the Hempfield Recreational Park. The 24,000 square foot structure, constructed in 2006, is located at the Township’s recreational park located off of State Route 66. The Recreation Department utilizes the building to operate a multitude of in-house recreational programs that include, but are not limited to, basketball, soccer and zumba.
The facility is also rented by private entities for tournaments, practices, consignment sales and flea markets. The building includes recreational offices, courts, concession area, indoor walking path and equipment storage.
The building is equipped with a radiant floor heating system that utilizes water. This system is cost-effective and efficient. In addition, the building is equipped with back-up emergency generator power and can be used as a shelter during emergencies.
Hempfield Township is the largest municipality located in Westmoreland County, with a population in excess of 40,000. Gibson-Thomas was involved with all aspects of the project which included design, inspection and construction management.
