Haynes Street Bridge

The Haynes Street Bridge is located in the City of Johnstown, Cambria County and carries the roadway over the Stoneycreek River. The existing two-span concrete deck arch bridge, constructed in 1922, was replaced with a modern two-span haunched steel plate girder structure with an overall span of 229 feet.

A critical portion of this project was coordination with the United States Army Corps of Engineers regarding the concrete flood control walls in the project area. Impacts to these walls were necessary to construct the integral abutments and access the pier location within the stream.

Other improvements included:

  • Constructing decorative concrete barriers to replicate the existing barriers, Performing pavement reconstruction, new approach slabs, and ADA-compliant sidewalks
  • Upgraded lighting using ornamental light fixtures
  • New drainage features and cleaning of existing pipes

The completed Haynes Street Bridge was opened for traffic in 2015.
