Safe Routes to School Projects – Indiana County & City of Latrobe

The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a national initiative that has been implemented in Pennsylvania.  The program aims to provide safe pathways to educational facilities for school children. This has the indirect benefits of increasing physical activity by school-age children and improving roadway safety.

Gibson-Thomas designed SRTS projects in the City of Latrobe, Westmoreland County, and along 5th Street in Indiana Borough and White Township, Indiana County.  These projects included curb extensions, school bus pull-off lanes, raised crosswalks, and the redesign of existing intersections to include green space and allow for future streetscape work.
